Sigmund Freud Theories
Have you ever wondered what the Sigmund Freud theories are? Well, this article will attempt to explain some of his thoughts that still remain popular today.
Right off the bat, when most people think about Sigmund Freud theories, they think about his (some say obsession) fixation with the unconscious mind. However, Freud had many other influential thoughts during his lifetime that should be taken into account. He did a lot of work with dreams, repressed thoughts, and sexuality in addition to his work with the subconscious.
Since Freud was best known for his work with the subconscious, let’s begin there. Contrary to popular belief, Freud did not invent or discover the subconscious. Instead, he merely found a way for relating to it that had never been discovered before. To Freud, the subconscious was ready and willing to be manipulated, it just needed a bit of provoking. So, he developed his psychoanalytic theory that helped him to delve further into the subconscious mind. This type of analysis is still used throughout the world today. Freud’s work with dreams is also impressive if you stop to consider his various ideas concerning the topic.
As far as Sigmund Freud theories are concerned, his dream theory is one of the most unusual. For Freud, dreams were steeped in sexual desire. Thus, every dream was believed to be sexual in nature. If you were to research his dream concepts further, you would find that he believed many symbols within dreams to directly relate to sex in some manner. This observation was widely disputed at the time, and it is still disputed today. In fact (since we are on the topic of sexual symbols), Freud was really quite interested in sexual behaviours as well.
Why was Freud so interested in sex? For him, humans were natural, sexual, beings simply consumed with sex. Then again, this is just one thought. Throughout his lifetime, Freud often changed his ideas for better or for worse, yet they were always focused upon sex in some manner.
As you can see, there are many Sigmund Freud theories to think about. One interesting way to understand his various thoughts would be to research the many thoughts he had as a young neurologist to the thoughts that he had as a man that no longer wished to live. Freud is an interesting and complex character, which is why we have studied him for so many centuries now.
