Carl Jung Biography

The Carl Jung biography begins in the small town of Kesswil, Switzerland. Born to a mother that turned out to be a crash course in psychoanalysis for young Carl, this introverted kid went on to be something great.

From the time that he was born, Jung’s mother suffered from depression, anxiety, and bipolar disease. As a child, he watched his mother enter and exit various mental institutions throughout his entire childhood. Spending most of his time with his father, young Jung really began to turn to himself for consolation when things got tough. Some believe that Jung gained much of his knowledge from his formative year. Carl Jung’s biography really changes when young Carl receives his first punch from a classmate.

The fact that young Carl preferred to play by himself in school didn’t help him to make many friends. One day, while walking in the school yard, a particularly large boy punched him in the head and knocked him unconscious. From that day forward, he was unable to go to school due to the fact that he would faint every time he headed out for the schoolyard. Thinking that the boy had epilepsy, his father was forced to pay large doctor’s bills in order to find out what was wrong with him. Comprehending the dire financial situation that his father was in, Jung decided to get over his fear of academia, and he cracked open a Latin book.

Reportedly, Jung passed out three times while reading that book, but by the end of it he had managed to conquer his fears almost completely. He quickly realized that education was of the utmost importance, and he continued his education until he successfully graduated from high school. Originally, Jung wanted to be an archaeologist, but lack of funding on his father’s part caused him to attend the local medical school instead. One cannot continue to note the Carl Jung biography without mentioning Sigmund Freud, thus Freud now enters the scene.

When Jung graduated from university, he wrote a book on the topic of word association. Sending a copy to the well known psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, Freud instantly became charmed with Jung and the two were fast friends. Though they worked together for awhile, Freud and Jung eventually disagreed regarding one theory, and this disagreement would split the two forever.

Jung went on to marry, have children, publish many more books, and create theories that are still respected today. The Carl Jung biography ends with his death in 1961, though his thoughts and works will live on for many more years to come. From a shy boy that received a life altering blow, to a man that stood by his own thoughts and principles, Jung was truly one of the greatest minds that the world ever knew.
